THE Bahamas, hosts of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2013 CONCACAF Qualifier, will be in Group A for the May 8-12 tournament to be held at the Beach Soccer Complex at the Sir Sidney Poitier Bridge.
In the official draw, which was held on Tuesday in the Poseidon Room at Atlantis, the Bahamas was joined in their group by the United States, Guatemala and Puerto Rico.
Group B will be headed by Mexico, the top ranked team in the tournament. Also drawn to play in their group are Canada, Trinidad & Tobago and Guyana. Group C will comprise of El Salvador, Costa Rica and Jamaica.
Enrique Sanz, General Secretary of CONCACAF, conducted the draw, assisted by Golden Girl Eldece Clarke and two members of the women's national Beach Soccer team – goalkeeper Christabelle Izevbizua and Kate Knight.
Among those on hand for the draw were Josep Ponset, the head of competitions for Beach Soccer Worldwide; Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Dr Daniel Johnson; Tyrone Sawyer, Sports Director at the Ministry of Tourism and Leroy Archer, chairman of the National Sports Authority.
This is the first time that a CONCACAF Qualifier will being held in the Caribbean.
