Two suspects in hospital after gunfight with police

A POLICE shooting left two men in hospital - one in serious condition - after an exchange of gunfire and subsequent car crash into a local residence in the early hours of Saturday.

The incident occurred shortly after 3am in the South Beach area.

According to police reports, a 23-year-old man and 21-year-old man were driving a white Honda Fit - suspected of being stolen - when they reportedly fired gunshots at police.

Police returned fire resulting in the 23-year-old being shot and the 21-year-old injured as a result of the car crashing into a home on Valencia Drive.

The suspects were taken to hospital via EMS personnel where the 23-year-old is listed in serious condition while the 21-year-old was treated and discharged. He remains in police custody.

Police confiscated two handguns along with a large quantity of ammunition from the suspects.

Late Friday morning, a young man ended up in hospital after he was shot in the leg by a masked gunman.

Police reports say the 18-year-old was in the area of West Street and Dorsett Alley around 10.20am when he was approached and subsequently shot by a masked man.

The victim was taken to hospital via private vehicle where he is detained in stable condition.

In another shooting, a man was shot in the face on Saturday evening and is in hospital.

The incident reportedly occurred shortly before 7pm. Reports indicate that the victim was walking through a track off Cowpen Road when he was approached and shot in the face by a man known to him.

He was taken to hospital, where he is in stable condition.

Police said they were following “significant leads”.

Two armed robberies also took place yesterday, with police seeking the public’s help in locating the three men they say are responsible.

The first robbery occured at 1.38am, with a man being robbed of his Honda Accord.

As the man arrived at his home in Lumber Road, he was approached and robbed by two armed men.

The second incident took place in the area of Nassau and Meadow Streets, when a woman was robbed of her 2000 charcoal Honda Accord by a masked armed gunman.

In other crime news, two woman and one man are in police custody after they were found at the LPIA with two kilos of suspected cocaine.

Drug Enforcement Unit officers arrested the 31-year-old man of Mayfied Park, Grand Bahama around 6.30pm last Friday at Lynden Pindling International Airport.

He was inside the domestic departure lounge when officers conducted a search of his luggage - air marked for Exuma - and discovered the items.

Twenty minutes later, acting on information, Exuma DEU officers searched two women, aged 26 and 24, at Exuma National Airport and confiscated an additional quantity of suspected cocaine. The suspected drugs have a street value of $32,000.
