A Southern Heights man was shot and killed outside his home late yesterday afternoon, after he was attacked by a gunman and chased.
The victim, identified by family members at the scene as Lavado Miller, was cleaning his silver coloured Honda car in his driveway on Halifax Street – in the St Vincent’s Road area – when he was attacked.
Noting that police were still in the preliminary stages of their investigation, Assistant Police Commissioner Anthony Ferguson told the press at the scene that police were notified of the shooting shortly after 5pm.
“Upon arrival, they met the body of a young male, between two houses,” Mr Ferguson said.
“The deceased was on the outside of his residence cleaning his vehicle when a male emerged from a dark coloured vehicle that was parked just opposite his residence. This male was armed with a handgun and began shooting at the deceased who ran to take cover.
“He was chased by this male and shot several times about the body where he fell between his residence and another residence, where he succumbed of his injuries.”
Mr Ferguson said the gunman then fled the area and police have information to suggest there may have been others in the car.
While concerned neighbours gathered around the crime scene and a tow-truck began to gather the victim’s bullet-ridden car, Mr Ferguson said that police believe there are people who know what happened.
He said police are “working with very little information.” He called on anyone with any information to come forward.
“I wish to say at the onset that persons who might have information in connection with this latest homicide, we’re asking you to make every effort to contact police. As you can imagine, there are too many homicides that are taking place on this little 21 by 7.
“All Bahamians ought to be concerned anytime somebody is shot and I make an appeal to each and everyone of you. There are persons out there right now who are aware of what is happening and I urge you to come forward and make a report.”
