THE actions of the police in the House of Assembly yesterday were inappropriate according to Montagu MP Richard Lightbourn, who was grabbed by officers attempting to forcibly move him.

Mr Lightbourn told the press he didn’t think he should have been subjected to such treatment.

In the House, Mr Lightbourn refused to move his for officers who were attempting to approach FNM party leader Hubert Minnis and force him to leave.

“I don’t think it was appropriate. I think the whole show was not necessary but unfortunately the police, I guess, have their duty so that was an unfortunate incident,” he said. “I don’t think I should have been subjected to what I was. They tried to move me, force me away from where I was standing, I resisted, and then we finally left without incident.”

As for the actions of Central and South Abaco MP Edison Key, who was the only opposition member who did not oppose the Speaker’s move to suspend Dr Minnis, Mr Lightbourn said: “I haven’t spoken to Mr Key so I would like to speak with him before I make any comment.”
