COMMISSONER of Police Ellison Greenslade revealed that there have been “very serious developments” in the investigation into the escape of a 15-year-old girl from police custody two weeks ago.
Speaking at press conference yesterday, the commissioner said he had just received the file on the case, and what he found there was “unfortunate”.
“The file is on my desk. I will review the file today, and there are very serious developments.
“Officers lose their jobs when things like that happen. It was unfortunate.
“You know the public expects us to always be professional and to do things in a proper way and I am not going to comment any further except to say the file is on my desk.”
The 15-year-old girl had been in protective custody at the Groove Police Station on Baillou Hill Road after it was alleged that she attempted to rob a clothing store in the Town Centre Mall with a shotgun.
After she made her escape at around 1.40pm – police believe she climbed through a bathroom window – it took authorities three hours to return the girl to custody.
They said her family members, with whom she sought refuge, handed her over on Wulff Road near Montrose Avenue.
Police also confirmed that the attending officer was a woman.
Other police sources said the officer was relatively new to the police force.
The teen girl has since been charged and remanded into custody at Her Majesty’s Prison until her next court appearance.
