Prime Minister Perry Christie called for House of Assembly Speaker Kendal Major to build a “bridge” and allow Parliament to review the recommendations of the Constitutional Commission to determine the way forward.
“I have indicated on the presentation of the Commission’s report that during this summer recess the government will review the report with a view to making a determination of its own as to those recommendations in the report that it could or would accept moving forward and would wish to have implemented,” Mr Christie said.
“The speaker, himself, may have an interest in terms of being able to give consideration, as well as the government and Members of Parliament, so we may make a determination as to how we move our country forward...
“One of the recommendations I’m making is that you may wish to use your office, itself, to cause there to be a bridge, so to speak, to cause Parliament to have some way of looking at this with a view to examining how we should forward and what we can do.
“But most certainly I would ask the leader of government business to ensure that the matter is discussed with you and the members of the opposition with a view to arriving at some kind of formula that we may use moving forward, in the best interest of the country.”
