Pier#16 after-party a first of its kind for 'Festival of Lights'

The Sir Durward Knowles Festival of Lights is powdering up its party face this year, revamping the entertainment experience for guests attending the event. On December 21, 2013, all roads lead to Pier #16, the site of the” Greatest Party on Earth”.

Pier #16, which runs parallel to Woodes Rodgers Wharf, has never had a harbour-side party before. To inaugurate this space, the popular Christmas boat parade recently renamed in honour of The Bahamas’ first Olympic gold medalist, has partnered with top names in the entertainment world to guarantee a one of a kind experience.

Alexandra Maillis-Lynch, creator and visionary behind the inaugural Festival Rum Bahamas, will serve up a selection of gourmet treats. Based on the reputation of her well known catering company Alexandra, the partnership with RumFestival alone is an attraction. While attending the Festival of Lights, guests will also sample what is to come during the February festival of rum, food and culture.

“The holiday season is the ideal time for people to come together and there is nothing more appealing than a good party with fine spirits, gourmet food, live music and dancing. To miss the ‘Greatest Party on Earth’ at Pier #16 would be a travesty,” said Janet Johnson, Festival Director.

“We added the Pier #16 after-party to the Sir Durward Knowles Festival of Lights because it was a great fit. The new route will have the boats sail into the harbour, circling the Pier #14 waterway, directly in front of Woodes Rodgers Wharf and Pier #16. Not only will Festival patrons have a front row seat to the creative display of lights and sound on the vessels, and the best view of the fireworks show, but they will be wined and dined in an exciting party atmosphere if they choose to join us for the after-party,” said Ms Johnson.

Also on deck for the Pier #16 after-party is a performance by Willis and the Illest, a hugely popular top live reggae fusion Bahamian band. While there will be a cash bar, the creative culinary treats prepared by RumFestival are included in the $60 Pier#16 admission fee. This also includes access to the VIP Grandstand for viewing the boat parade.

“We are confident the entire event on December 21, from 5.30pm when it starts to the conclusion of the after-party, will be one to remember. Every year the ‘Festival of Lights’ gets bigger and better. This year will be no different,” said Ms Johnson.
