Lavish reception for Bahamas Ambassador to US

WASHINGTON, DC – After presenting his credentials to US President Barack Obama at the White House on Tuesday, Dr Eugene Newry, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States and his family were guests of honour at a lavish reception hosted by Paulette Zonicle, Bahamas Consul General.

The event was held at Mrs Zonicle’s home in Fort Washington, Maryland.

More than 100 guests, including many Bahamians living in the DC area, turned out to congratulate Ambassador Newry and wish him well.

Also attending the event were Dr Samuel Springer and Vincent Dion Stringer, lecturers in the Fine and Performing Arts Department at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland.

The reception coincided with the birthday of the ambassador’s wife, Francoise Torchon Newry, and Mr Stringer, an accomplished singer, accompanied by Dr Springer on the piano, sang happy birthday to her after performing three songs.
