LEADERS in politics and law enforcement are to blame for the high rate of crime and corruption plaguing the country because they have “put a spin” on the severity of the situation, according to anti-crime activist Rev CB Moss.
Rev Moss, executive director of Bahamas Against Crime (BAC), said the violence will only get worse until every Bahamian acknowledges that the country is in a state of emergency.
He urged the government to see the times for what they are and act accordingly.
The community activist said authorities have allowed crime to flourish while ignoring the fear thriving among Bahamians who are concerned for their safety on a daily basis.
Rev Moss was speaking in the wake of the armed robbery of Deputy Prime Minister Philip ‘Brave” Davis and his wife Ann Marie at their home on Monday morning.
He said: “There has simply been too much talk, and they say the occurrence of crime is improving. Until the Bahamian people realise that we are in a crisis, we won’t get very far.
“Unfortunately, that determination is being held up by those in charge of crime, putting a spin on it.
“BAC operates on the ground and we know what’s going on. We have been warning the nation for the past six years that this situation will get worse until we come to the realisation that this is a state of emergency, a crisis.”
While fighting against crime is every Bahamian’s obligation, Rev Moss said the government must lead the way. So far, he said, the Christie administration has failed.
Every elected official, Rev Moss said, must hold the government accountable.
“The government of the Bahamas has the responsibility to lead. Not just buying more cars or adding more time to the schedule. They need to rally this nation against crime and they must show us that they are serious.
“The government has in many ways permitted crime to flourish. Web shops that are today illegal are still being allowed to stay open. They should not be allowed to act with such impunity. It’s up to the government to stop this kind of behaviour or to legalise it.
“They can’t expect to allow people not to act outside of the law while these kinds of behaviours are condoned,” Rev Moss said.

Not so fast...are you telling me that someone can take the proceeds of years of illegal operation, where you have no clue how the money was made, drug smuggling, paid hits, gun smuggling, human smuggling, you simply don't know, and today they can deposit all that blood money in a bank and become "respectable"? What does that say about allowing crime to flourish?

Ter Rt. Rev Moss should have gone to the holy book to explain what is going wrong with humans today. In bible days towards the end of an earth age, crime got so bad many of the cities had walls built around them. The gates to those big cities were closed and bolted shut at sunset and those with out had to seek safe shelter or spend the night among thieves, robbers, rapist and murderers....as it was in the beginning, so shall it be at the end of timeIncrease in Crime
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. (2 Timothy 3:1)
We are living in the midst of an "epidemic of crime," at which thoughtful, God-fearing men everywhere stand aghast. The corruption that prevails, it is beyond the power of the human pen to describe. Every day brings fresh

Mr Moss. i acknowledge and respect what you are doing. However the parents and hold much of the responsibility of crime that plague the streets of The Bahamas. You have Parents living off the proceeds of crime and encourage their children to go out and break the law for financial gain and you this. So be careful how u make comments to the media reference to who to blame for the high level of crime. if you want to address crime speak about all the attributes not some and point fingers to make yourself sparkle. if someone gets offended then they are guilty of entertaining such a negative behaviors. keep up the good work and continue to encourage your followers to work with the police.

You may think so... Deuteronomy 31:6, Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."
2 Deuteronomy 31:8, The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."
3 Joshua 1:5, No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you
