Prime Minister Perry Christie has led the Bahamian delegation to South Africa to attend the funeral of Nelson Mandela.
Mr Christie travelled with Minister of Tourism Obie Wilchcombe, Minister of Foreign Affairs Fred Mitchell, Senior Policy Advisor Sir Baltron Bethel, foreign service staff and other Caricom heads of government on a private charter flight to Johannesburg courtesy of the government of Trinidad and Tobago.
The delegation attended the state memorial service today. The viewing of the body will take place tomorrow, with the state funeral scheduled for Sunday.

Hopefully tax payers do not have to pay for yet another trip around the world. The way these clowns travel, they must think we got money growing on coconut trees.

I would have thought the correct thing to do would have been for the PM to have gone to this funeral with his wife only - leaving behind the others. And, yes, I guess we foot the bill for this too!

You people are so disrespectful. People like you make me feel ashamed to call myself Bahamian dred. You assholes wound only feel it till it happen to you. Show respect for your the leader of the country and the decease.

But this is the "voice of the people". Or is it only worth acknowledging if they just gave you the winning vote in an election? The South African PM was boo'd at the ceremony. His people are not happy with him either. There's rank poverty and violence in that country...sound familiar?
When people feel pain they cry out, and it's not always nice. When Pindling lost the 92 election he said ~"he did not know the people were hurting so bad" (yesterday's editorial). Maybe this time around they should listen to the voices and act to address issues before they are booted out

You are obviously am FNM supporter. Someone from the PLP administration should go. Besides Sir Lynden Pindling and a hand full of people where who main advocators who challenge the world leaders for the release of Mr. Mandala, and to show support Mr. Mandala came here to say thanks. So F**K you and kiss my ass.
ThisIsOurs 11 years ago
First, this is a "democracy", so I refuse to kiss any part of you, especially potentially bacteria ridden parts.
Second my support is based on what someone is doing not a label they've given themselves, I have to date found displeasure with both parties. But I will admit that the PLP has given me quite a lot more crap to talk about.
Third, what are you talking about? No one said the PM shouldn't go. (Sir Baltron and the mysterious members of the delegation are another matter)
Fourth, you made a statement about other people's comments being disrespectful. To your comment I gave a common PLP refrain that this is the voice of the people. OR does that voice only say good things?

Nelson Mandela, South Africa, Perry Gladstone Christie, Fred Mitchell -- this is what the story is about, and you still manage to bring the long gone FNM into the picture? Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, I'd say.

And we wonder where the youth of the nation learnt their behavior from.. by grown adults who sit and complain about everything and everyone and belittle everyone in this country, but yet what example they are setting? Just look above this post and read the hate and venom that is being spewed daily..... . “No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.”
