Renaissance singers prepare for Christmas concert

The Nassau Renaissance Singers are pleased to announce the 2013 “Music for Christmas” concert series, which will be held at the Ballroom of Government House on Thursday, December 12 and Saturday, December 14 at 8:00pm.

These performances will be held under the distinguished patronage of Their Excellencies, The Governor General Sir Arthur Foulkes and Lady Foulkes.

In honour of the country’s 40th anniversary of independence, music by the choir’s director, Mrs Audrey Dean-Wright will be featured. Bahamian born Mrs Wright - composer, pianist, singer, choral conductor and poet - has been a part of the fabric of music and culture of the Bahamas for over 40 years. After starting her training in the Bahamas, Mrs Wright furthered her education in Jamaica and New York. She has won countless international awards during her distinguished career. Her music has truly reached across international boundaries and languages.

This year’s concerts will also include a selection of classical and traditional Christmas music to delight the audience and usher in the holiday season. In addition, there will be special performances by JoAnn Callender (soprano) and College of the Bahamas musicians. As in the past, those attending will be invited to join in the usual after concert refreshments and chat with choir members and featured guests at the close of the evening.

Tickets for the Nassau Renaissance Singers’ concert may be purchased at Custom Computers in the Harbour Bay Shopping Plaza, East Bay Street or at its Cable Beach store.

Proceeds from the concerts are to benefit the Nassau Renaissance Singers’ Scholarship Fund for music students at the College of the Bahamas.
