POLICE have recovered the vehicle used in the armed robbery of Acting Prime Minister Philip “Brave” Davis, The Tribune understands.

According to sources close to the case, the 2010 four-door silver coloured Honda was recovered from Millennium Gardens after concerned citizens reported a suspicious vehicle to the police.

The Tribune understand the vehicle was in “good shape” with only the licence plate missing. It is currently being dusted by police for fingerprints or any sign of DNA.

While no one is currently in custody, the source said, police “have a good idea of who they are looking for.”

Assistant Commissioner of Police Anthony Ferguson confirmed that police have a vehicle matching the description of the car used in the robbery, but they are not sure if it is the actual car in question.

“We have to confirm that that is the vehicle and we are trying to do that now. We are doing some investigations but we cannot say that is the vehicle but it matches the description. No one is in custody, but we are making significant progress. We are happy with what we have so far.”

Mr Davis and his wife were held up at gunpoint and robbed around 7am Monday.

Police say that three men, armed and wearing masks, gun butted Mr Davis’s chauffeur, forced their way into his home and robbed him and his wife of an undetermined amount of money before fleeing in a waiting silver Honda Accord.

When asked if he was frightened when the three entered his home, Mr Davis replied, “They don’t call me ‘Brave’ for nothing”.

He also took the opportunity to underscore the importance of the public’s partnership in the fight against crime, adding that the government was committed to ensuring a safer Bahamas for all citizens.

While he has not requested additional personal security measures, Mr Davis confirmed that adjustments will be made to his security detail.

He also said he does not believe the attack was personal, but rather a “crime of opportunity”.
