THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY HAS ISSUED A SEVERE WEATHER WATCH FOR NEW PROVIDENCE FROM 3:10PM EDT UNTIL 5:30PM FOR MONDAY 16TH DECEMBER 2013.
AT 3:01PM ROUTINE WEATHER OBSERVATION REVEALED A FUNNEL CLOUD JUST EAST OF THE LYNDEN PINDLING INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. IN ADDITION TO THIS FUNNEL CLOUD THERE WAS A SQAUL LINE JUST WEST OF NEW PROVIDENCE MOVING SOUTHEASTWARDS.
THIS LINE CAN BE SEVERE AT TIMES CAUSING STRONG GUSTY WINDS, DANGEROUS LIGHTNING, HEAVY DOWNPOURS, HAIL AND POSSIBLE WATERSPOUT OR TORNADIC ACTIVITY.
BOATERS AND AIRMEN IN THE WATCH AREA SHOULD EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION AND RESIDENTS IN THE WATCH AREA SHOULD STAY INDOORS AND AWAY FROM WINDOWS IF AND WHEN CONDITIONS WORSEN. RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT SEEK SHELTER UNDER TREES OR IN WATER AS THESE CAN BECOME LIGHTENING CONDUCTORS.
