A MAN was expected to stand trial yesterday in Magistrates Court accused of smuggling $380,000 worth of cocaine into the country in ceiling fans, a digital drum set and a remote-controlled toy car.
However, Magistrate Andrew Forbes was informed that Anthony Lunn’s attorney was before another court in a case being put to the jury for deliberation.
The magistrate therefore adjourned the trial to January 14, 2014.
Lunn, 46, of Garden Hills, faces two charges which he denies: importation of dangerous drugs and possession of dangerous drugs with intent to supply.
It is claimed that he committed these offences on August 13, 2012.
On the day in question, police officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit acted on a tip that led them to Bahamas Customs at the Lynden Pindling International Airport.
Upon arrival, they conducted a search of several electrical appliances allegedly brought in to the country on a Copa Airlines flight from Panama.
The search resulted in the discovery of more than 23.8 pounds of suspected cocaine.
Lunn was arraigned two days later in connection with the find.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The accused is represented by Michael Kemp while ASP Ercell Dorsett is prosecuting.
