THREE Central American men are in police custody after they were found in possession of more than $300,000 cash at a local hotel on Friday evening.
This marks the second major drug-related seizure in two days, with the amount totalling half a million dollars.
According to police reports, officers of the Drug Enforcement Unit, acting on information received, executed a search warrant at a room of a local downtown resort around 5pm.
There, they seized over $300,000 in cash, suspected to be the proceeds of crime.
Three Panamanian men aged 47, 38, and 37 were subsequently arrested and are assisting DEU officers with investigations.
It was last Thursday that police arrested a 32-year-old man yesterday after finding a large amount of cash which they suspected to be the proceeds of crime. The discovery took place around 11am in the Perpall Tract area.
Police say officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit, acting on information, executed a search warrant at a home and seized more than $200,000 in cash.
The man is now assisting police with their investigation into this matter.
In other crime news, a 39-year-old man of Malcolm Allotment is in custody after a shotgun and drugs were found in a car he was in.
Mobile Division officers were on patrol on Tyler Street and Boyd Road around 2pm on Saturday, when they saw two occupants in a black Rodeo Jeep acting suspiciously.
Officers stopped the vehicle and one of the suspects – dressed in red pants and white shirt – jumped out and ran, dropping a shotgun.
However, officers were able to arrest the other suspect in the vehicle.
A subsequent search of a the vehicle uncovered a quantity of dangerous drugs. Investigations are continuing.
