POLICE are investigating a traffic accident that left an American man dead and five other people in hospital.
It happened around 11am Tuesday in Rainbow Bay, Eleuthera.
Police say the man, who has been identified as Walter Bonam from New York, USA, was driving a 1996 Chevy Lumina, with three passengers, travelling south on Queens Highway when he drifted to the wrong side of the road and collided head on with a Chevy Malibu travelling north.
The impact of the crash caused Mr Bonam to be thrown from the vehicle. He died on the scene.
His passengers, all U S citizens, received minor injuries and are being treated at the local clinic. The driver of the Lumina along with his front seat passenger also received minor injuries and are being treated.
A team of officers from the Traffic Division in New Providence are in Eleuthera assisting them with their investigations.
