Man in custody in connection with shooting of police officers

POLICE have in custody one of two men wanted in connection with the Thursday shooting of two of their fellow officers.

Renaldo Adderley was handed over to police at 1:30pm yesterday by his lawyer, radio personality Jeffrey Lloyd. This occurred after police visited the house of Adderley’s mother and asked her to encourage her son to turn himself in.

He was taken into custody at the South Beach police station without incident, police spokesman Supt Stephen Dean confirmed. Police had launched a manhunt for Adderley and an accomplice following Thursday’s shooting.

Reportedly, the officers were on patrol when they spotted Adderley, being sought by police in connection with the February 3 murder of Margaret Altime. After a high speed chase, Adderley crashed his vehicle on Cascarilla Street and opened fire on the police as he got out of the vehicle. He and an accomplice fled the scene.

According to Assistant Police Commissioner Anthony Ferguson, both officers received head injuries and were taken to Doctor’s Hospital where the condition of neither of them is life threatening.

Police wish to thank members of the public for their overwhelming support in supplying information that led to the arrest of this suspect. They appeal to members of the public who might have information regarding a crime to contact them at 919 or Crimestoppers at 328-328-TIPS (New Providence) or 300-8476 (Family Islands).
