THE Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association introduced its $1 Saturday, a new program they intend to run to provide another avenue for youngsters to learn the game of tennis.
The event will run every Saturday between the hours of noon and 2pm at the National Tennis Center. It will be hosted by local teaching pros.
According to the association, “no child will be turned away. Just show up ready to play with your $1 and you will be assigned to a coach who will teach you the basic fundamentals of tennis using the new tennis format with slower balls, lower nets, smaller courts and smaller racquets.”
The $1 donation will go towards the BLTA fundraising efforts to construct four mini tennis courts and four slow courts for the use of players age 10 and under.
“We want to give every child the opportunity to play the game because it has so many benefits to offer those who can play,” the BLTA said.
“Ultimately, the best players in the Saturday program will be offered scholarships to train on a full-time basis with one of the tennis programs at the National Tennis Centre.”
