IT was a special night for Ray Minus Jr on Saturday night at his Wulff Road Boxing Club.
Meacher ‘Pain’ Major, one of his proteges, returned home from New York where he is training for his professional career, hosted a night to say ‘thank you’ to Minus Jr for his contribution he made to both the amateurs and professional boxers in the past.
While Major made a presentation of a plaque as he expressed his gratitude, among those who also spoke were boxers (amateurs and pros) Alex Fox, Jerry Butler, Godfrey Pinder, Elkin Butler, Quincy ‘Thrill-A-Minute’ Pratt and Keshno Major, along with Minus’ mother, his daughter Rayshell, Major’s mother Patrice, referee Gregory Storr and boxing coach Nathanial Knowles.
Minus Jr, the former bantamweight and lightweight Bahamian and Commonwealth champion, has hosted a number of amateur boxing shows and he teamed up with his ex wife Michelle Minus to form the First Class Boxing Promotions, which was responsible for a number of professional boxing shows.
Minus Jr said he was grateful for the show of appreciation that he received from all those present and he look forward to continuing to make his contribution to the further development of the sport, both locally and internationally.
