With the goal to compete in the Carifta Swimming Championships, the Barracuda Swim Club held its Atlantic Medical Invitational meet at the Betty Kelly-Kenning Aquatic Centre over the weekend.

The two-day meet saw the swimmers vying for a position on the Carifta team that is scheduled to travel to Kingston, Jamaica, in April.

The swimmers used this meet to see exactly where they stand before the Bahamas Swimming Federation (BSF) holds its final trials for Carifta this weekend.

“We thank Atlantic Medical Insurance Limited for agreeing to be a sponsor,” said Dion Gibson, president of the Barracuda Swim Club. “We welcome them to the ‘Cuda family and we look forward to an ongoing partnership. Despite the rain, the meet was an overall success. Swimmers used this last meet before CARIFTA trials to gauge their positioning and make qualifying times.”

In the girls 8 and under division, Liya Moncur walked away with the high point trophy with a score of 54 points. Runner-up went to Salene Gibson with 40 points. In the 8 and under boys, Jake Thompson walked away with the high point trophy with a score of 76 points and Marvin Johnson took the runner-up trophy with a score of 54 points.

Anya MacPhail walked away with the high point trophy with a score of 69 points in the girls 9-10 division, and the runner-up, with a score of 38 points, was Jazmine Trotman.

For the boys 9-10 division, Kevon Lockhart took the high point trophy with a score of 62 points, while Mark-Anthony Thomson took the runner-up trophy with 55 points.

In the 11-12 girls division, with the high score of 53 points, Virginia Stamp took the high point trophy, while the runner-up trophy went to Amber Pinder with a score of 40 points.

In the boys 11-12 division, Samuel Gibson took the high point trophy with 52 points and Tyler Russell took runner-up trophy with 50 points.

Margaret Higgs walked away with the high point trophy with 49 points in the girls 13-14 division. The runner-up place went to Christina Pyfrom with 42 points. For the 13-14 boys, Tyrique Cox walked away with the high point trophy with 41 points followed closely by the runner-up Alexander Encinar with 35 points.

In the girls 15-and-over division, with 55 points, Doran Reed walked away the high point trophy. The runner-up was Joanna Evans with 42 points. In the 15-and-over boys, Meshach Roberts received the high point trophy with 51 points and Kohen Kerr the runner up trophy with 54 points.

The Barracuda Swim Club wishes all of the swimmers good luck in the upcoming time trials, especially Carifta hopefuls Drew Bastian, Izaak Bastian, Dylan Cash, Tyrique Cox, N’Hyn Fernander, Samuel Gibson, Gershwin Greene, Sian Longley, Abigail Lowe, Amber Pinder, Doran Reed, Dustin Tynes and Virginia Stamp.
