Former DNA candidate Rodney Moncur is claiming some police officers are raising funds on behalf of Urban Renewal and are not on patrol when they are supposed to be.
Speaking yesterday at the Bain and Grants Town Advisory Board East press conference, Mr Moncur said: “The greatest concern that I have is some members of the RBPF who are assigned to Urban Renewal are personally raising funds and are not accountable for it.
“I’m also concerned that police officers who are assigned to Urban Renewal, instead of being in the community patrolling – they are at senior officers’ homes repairing and building kitchen cabinets, while the Bahamas government is paying that police salary.”
The Justice of the Peace said “it has to be corruption” for an officer assigned to patrol to be found “repairing cabinets” during hours of duty.
It’s also “dishonest” for officers to ask businesses “for rock sheet and roof shingle – and not turn that in,” he said.
Mr Moncur claimed further that “sources” have accused some police officers of breaking into a local church.
“For the last three years, I have been worshipping at the Catholic church,” Mr Moncur said.
“Senior persons in the Catholic church have told me that they suspect the police break into the office because there’s a serious scandal going on involving monies and quite a number of computers were stolen – the towers. That has taken place.”
