There were no injuries reported, but landline, mobile and internet services have been disrupted as a result of the incident, which took place on February 19.
Local calls have not been affected.
The collapse occurred during a scheduled tower replacement in Bullocks Harbour to improve the island’s landline, internet and mobile quality.
Equipment is currently being shipped to the area and BTC technicians have been deployed to assess the damage and to assist contractors with repairs and equipment installations.
Along with the tower, the BTC exchange building, generator, and additional equipment was damaged as a result of the collapse.
To assist customers and provide emergency communication to the island, satellite phones have been shipped to Bullocks Harbour and are located at the area’s medical office along with BTC’s office, which is currently open for normal business hours.
Thus far, repairs have been made to the location’s generators and exchange building, and BTC technical teams are currently working to complete the necessary equipment replacements.
