OFFICIALS from Urban Renewal 2.0 yesterday announced a new corporate partnership with the Bahamas Telecommunications Company.
Senior public relations manager Jerome Sawyer said BTC believes it has been mandated to promote positivity in inner city communities as social ills continue to be a challenge.
While BTC intends to spearhead a number of initiatives in various areas around the Bahamas, Mr Sawyer said the company had not put a dollar value on their efforts as the work moving forward would be continuous.
“The people who use our service,” he said, “certainly are the people of the Bahamas and we believe that we have a responsibility to the people no matter who they are, where they live and what their social status might be.
“We believe that throwing money at a problem is not the answer and so this partnership is more than just giving donations, but we are going to be involved in every level in Urban Renewal.”
In the coming weeks, BTC intends to reward youngsters in various communities who display positive behaviour.
In addition, officers and persons involved with Urban Renewal will be given vouchers to purchase new phones or upgrade their services from BTC.
Urban Renewal Commission co-chairperson Algernon Allen urged other corporations and private citizens to assist Urban Renewal’s efforts to offer assistance to marginalised persons.
He said: “We invite all of those who may be witnessing and knowledgeable of this initiative to join us and be apart of our effort. We are about the social transformation of the Bahamas. We are about saving our beloved nation and lifting the poor and the marginalised, ensuring that at the end of the day we have a better Bahamas in which to live.”
