FNM leader congratulates Nicole Martin on election victory

FNM leader Dr Hubert Minnis congratulated Nicole Martin on her reelection to the presidency of the Bahamas Hotel Catering and Allied Workers Union, calling it a “hopeful opportunity” for the union to come together and advance the causes of its members.

Extending best wishes to the members of Ms Martin’s team, Dr Minnis said they must now join with the other election hopefuls to provide strong leadership for the BHCAWU.

He said: “On behalf of the
Free National Movement I
wish them every possible success
in their efforts to advance the
cause of the union and its
members.

“They can be assured of the FNM’s full commitment to work with them in any way possible as they seek to make our country the absolute best place for all who work and visit here.”

Ms Martin and her team resume their leadership of the union at a difficult and challenging time, Dr Minnis said.

“As world economies struggle to regain strength after the recent Great Recession, tourism based economies like the Bahamas face the added challenge of striving to sustain high levels of employment in the face of diminished consumer confidence in those struggling economies who feed our tourism product,” he said.

“The road to full and lasting recovery will not be easy.

“I am satisfied, though, that Ms Martin’s re-election gives an added degree of confidence that the union will have the benefit of strong and level-headed leadership in the face of these tough times.”
