The referendum on gambling

EDITOR, The Tribune.

No one is going to suggest to me to vote for and by my vote support people who for years have broken the laws of The Bahamas. I do care how many hundreds of thousands they gave to political parties and away to this and that.

The comments of some of the Reverends in our community amazes me... an Anglican Archdeacon indicated on a TV Talk Show that he would be voting “Yes” but inspired all to vote with a Christian mindset – I presume the good Archdeacon therefore suggests we should not vote for the Numbers question as it certainly would be questionably not a Christian to vote for something which was illegal and you know those people knew wrong is wrong two wrongs don’t ever make a right, but isn’t that what we are trying?

The Baptist Minister who does a lot of sloop sailing, incidentally who is it that is the major Native Sloop Sailing sponsor?

Is it not collection time from the PLP party?

The others, the FNM their leader says no, but I know for a fact many in leadership support the yes vote and even the numbers people who have been breaking the law.

I hope this issue is not going to be decided by simple majority, surely if less than 50 per cent plus one of the registered voters do not participate (vote) the Referendum should be automatically disqualified and cancelled?

I do support a National Lottery, but not to fund exclusively sports – Minister Dr Gomez said we can’t with the high unemployment pay for Health Insurance why doesn’t Government let the license fees of a lottery pay for at the minimum Catastrophic Health Insurance, which Rev or anyone would object to that?

Lottery yes – funds go to Catastrophic Health Insurance costs.
