THIS weekend, volunteers will be canvassing various communities to spread the word about Operation Potcake.
The 10 day spay and neuter campaign, which begins next week, aims to see thousands of dogs fixed at one of five clinics. Clinics run from January 10–14 and 17–21.
In this second round of walkabouts, the volunteers will tell residents about the free services to be offered, and look for stray dogs that need spaying or neutering.
“Please keep an eye out and feel free to assist – the clinic teams will welcome any extra community assistance, especially to help identify dogs needing to be fixed, as well as bringing them to the clinics for registration,” said the organisers in a statement.
Some of the clinics will also be asking the neighbourhood children to volunteer to take part in painting a sign that will hang over their local clinic entrance.
Signs have already been done for the East Street and Carmichael Road locations.
Clinic drop off times are 8am and 1pm, and dogs can be picked up the same day. Vets advised that the pets should not be fed after 8pm the night before if they are to be brought at 8am.
