Hoodwinked by the PLP

EDITOR, The Tribune.

The Bahamian people have been exploited on many occasions, but never in the history have they been had, took, hoodwinked, bamboozled, led astray, run amuck, lied to and shafted.

The PLP government are proving every day that the well being of ordinary Bahamians are not a priority to them. Never mind the photo ops of either knocking down a house or building a lil house for a deserving elderly.

During the last election, The Rt Hon Perry Gladstone Christie on many occasions, with his rhetorical flourish, beat his chest like the big bad wolf and said that when the PLP was elected, he was going to take back the majority shares from BTC.

He went from rally to rally fooling the gullible Bahamian people that he was bad enough to “stop, review and cancel” an “iron clad” deal.

Mind you, former prime minister Hubert Alexander Ingraham told them that it was not possible, but Mr Christie with his bully tactics and his high powered “pressure team’” pretended that this was possible.

Not so long ago, the story leaked that the team was allegedly paid as much as a million dollars for their services. But the mystery is, why was the team ever assembled, when Mr Christie should have known from the beginning that it was ‘totally impossible’ for the Bahamas government to reverse the deal, especially because of the huge penalty for doing so? Now, with his tail between his legs, Mr Christie has apparently awoken from his hallucinations and admitted that absolutely nothing could be done to change the deal, something he should have always known.

Mr Christie’s political calculations and utterances seem to support the belief that the PLP said anything and did anything to be elected and the vulnerable Bahamian electorate not only swallowed the bait, hook, line and sinker, but downed the boat, and I am not talking about a dingy either.

I knew and even said that Mr Christie was playing the Bahamian people for fools, but the blind followers thought otherwise. Many are moaning and groaning, right now, the Blue Hill road improvement objectors come to mind.

On another note, I strongly suggest Mr Christie address the outstanding monies for the Custom, Immigration union, especially since the PLP promised it during the election. Otherwise this would be yet another promise not met, even more.

Now, send in the clowns!

One mistake Ivoine, Christie is not admitting the deal can't be done. Since there was such an uproar (from both sides) after the story got out that the deal was dead, our PM still insists on pandering to the ignorant of his base by telling them talks will resume this year.

What amazes me is Franklyn Wilson, he is a legit business man and very smart on financial matters. Franklyn knew from the start this could not go, he knows the governments only recourse is to buy all of BTC back and he knows that can only happen with consent of BTC owners. Franklyn does not need more money, so the questionis why was Franklyn going so far with the bull? Greed? One more million to add to his existing hundreds? Why Franklyn? Why are you going along with this nonsense when you know better?

And to all the PLP supporters that still thknk the government can take back 3% of the shares. Here it is in a nutshell. Cable and Wireless owns BTC, the government cannot order them to sell 3%, just like the government cannot tell you to sell somehting to someone if you do not want to. Do you understand now? Stop listening to the PLP propaganda machine, they cannot buy back anything if the owner does not want to sell. Period, no words can change that, no lies can change that.
