THE local governing body for cycling recently announced its award winners to conclude what they described as an “exciting and competitive season.”
The New Providence Cycling Association compiled its lists of outstanding cyclists and teams for the year.
Anthony Colebrooke, though a junior, was the most dominant and consistent cyclist on the circuit this year and was given the “Outstanding Male Cyclist” award.
The 17-year-old Colebrooke of Team Warriors hoisted trophies at the conclusion of nearly every marquee event on the circuit, including being named the overall champion of the Tour de New Providence, the Clifton Pier Cycling Classic, the Bertram “Cowboy” Musgrove bike-a-thon, and the Grand Bahama Cyclists Club Championships among others. Colebrooke also was the top cyclist in the Senior I Division. Jay Major of Team JAR was second, while Tracey Sweeting of the Potcake Cycling Club was third.
Sylvia Russell of the Potcakes Cycling Club was named the “Outstanding Female Cyclist” of the year. She also won the Senior Masters Female Division, with teammate Amanda Graham finishing second.
Rob Rothwell of the Potcakes was named the top cyclist in the Senior II Division, followed by Justin of Team Warriors, Wayne Price of Team Warlords and Robert Whittingham of Team JAR.
In the Senior III Division, Richard Horton of the Potcake CC was followed by teammate Robert Bethel and Steve Davies in third.
Anthony Roberts and Larry Russell, both of Potcake CC, topped the Senior Masters Male Division. Antonio Roberts of the Potcake CC was given the top honour in the Junior Boys Division, followed by Peetron Lightbourne and Peemtree Price, both of Team Warriors.
Felix Neely of Team Warriors was first in the Cadets Division followed by teammate Cecil Williams.
NPCA president Barron Musgrove said the group deserves commendation for keeping the sport vibrant in 2012.
“These cyclists have been singled out because of their performances over the 2012 NPCA cycling season. These persons have maintained and set the standard in cycling here in New Providence as well as the country on the whole,” he said.
“They have excelled in their various categories and are due to the rewards they will receive within the next few weeks. Once again, we congratulate these outstanding individuals and the various teams represented. On behalf of the NPCA, we extend our thanks to you for your participation in the races put on by the association and its members. We look forward to 2013 being very exciting and competitive. Once again, we look forward to you topping 2012.”
