Three course records set on race weekend

The 2013 Sunshine Insurance Race Weekend saw three new course records being set. 

Four-time Colorado All-American and three-time USA World Cross Country Team member, 37 year old Clint Wells won the full marathon in a time of 2hr.33 min., smashing Bryan Huberty’s 2012 course record of 2hr.42min.

Twenty-nine year old Floridian Angela Cobb, top overall full female marathon winner, broke her 3hr: 00min 2012 record, to set a new course record of 2hr: 54min. 

Jonathan Volpi winner of the half marathon set a new course record of 1:12, by beating Cobi Morles’ 2012 time of 1hr: 17min.

Sidney Collie was the first Bahamian full marathoner to cross the finish line in a personal best of 2hr:45min.

Williams won the Susan G Komen Bahamas Race for the Cure in a time of 18min:11sec.

In addition to the new course records, the two day Sunshine Insurance Race Weekend saw significant growth over last year.

The 2013 Susan G. Komen 5K Bahamas Race for the Cure attracted approximately 1,800, up from last year’s numbers of 1,333.

Marathon Bahamas 2013 drew a field of some 1,200 runners, (full, half and relay marathon), up from last year’s 958 participants.

The Scotiabank Students Run Marathon Bahamas was the new addition to the relay segment of Marathon Bahamas and attracted 15 teams from public and private schools. The RM Bailey Senior High School relay team of Kendon Adderley, Cimelio Darling, Tario McKenzie and Eric Pyfrom won with a time of 3hrs: 09 min.

Proceeds will benefit the five named cancer charities: The Cancer Society of The Bahamas, The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, Sister Sister Breast Cancer Support Group, The Bahamas Breast Cancer Initiative, and the Cancer Association of Grand Bahama.

The 2014 race weekend will be held over the Martin Luther King Holiday Weekend on January 18 & 19.
