THE Supreme Court trial of a man accused of trying to murder a mother, son and nephew, has been delayed as pre-trial legal issues have arisen.
Rafik Turnquest, 27, of Toote Shop Corner returns before Justice Vera Watkins tomorrow, January 23, where he faces three charges of attempted murder, alleged to have been committed on April 8, 2011.
It is claimed that he tried to murder Joane Forbes, Jamalio Forbes and Arnold Stubbs. Turnquest denies the charges.
The trial was scheduled to begin yesterday with Koschina Marshall and Mariia Zancoula prosecuting the matter and Ramona Farquharson-Seymour along with Candice Hepburn defending Turnquest.
However, the matter did not proceed as expected.
Vinette Graham-Allen and Garvin Gaskin, director and deputy director of public prosecutions respectively, along with defence attorneys, met with the judge in her chambers.
Half an hour later, the four attorneys reentered the courtroom with the DPP and DDPP exiting the court shortly afterwards.
The trial was adjourned to January 23.
However, shortly after being escorted from court, Turnquest was brought before Senior Justice Jon Isaacs, where additional pre-trial and legal issues were discussed.
Those discussions are scheduled to continue today while the trial before Justice Watkins is scheduled for tomorrow at 10am.
