Scotia branch to be ‘small business hub’

Scotiabank (Bahamas) says its $1.3 million Carmichael Road branch will “serve as a major small business hub” in New Providence’s fastest growing community.

Speaking at last week’s opening, Kevin Teslyk, its managing director, said that after arriving in the Bahamas in June 2011 it became clear that approving the Carmichael Road branch would be “one of my first orders of business”.

Mr Teslyk said last week’s official opening meant “the clarion call was answered”. While Scotiabank had been the last commercial bank to establish a Carmichael Road presence, he quoted the old adage: “One always saves the best for last.”

Mr Teslyk added that the Carmichael branch was the second of its kind after Cable Beach, describing the Bahamas as “a trendsetter and a bit of a proving ground” for Scotiabank’s international branch format.

The Canadian-headquarterd institution is set to roll the format out across all its Bahamian branches, with its main location in downtown Nassau, and Freeport, next in line.

Mr Teslyk said Scotiabank (Bahamas) had invested $7.8 million in capital expenditure over the past year,.
