The executive board of Calvary Deliverance Church announced that Pastor James Newry will be officially installed as the church’s senior pastor January 28. The service, which will be held under the theme “Building on a Legacy”, will be presided over by outgoing senior pastor Bishop V. G. Clarke.
Pastor Newry was ordained a minister in 1999 and appointed to the position of associate pastor during 2002. In more recent years, he was tasked with the assignment of directing and administrating the affairs and activities of the church’s various ministries and auxiliaries as its director of ministries. Pastor Newry has had the benefit of experiencing the many demands of church administration by working directly alongside Bishop Clarke for the past six years.
The senior pastor (elect), who accepted the call to ministry in 1985, represents the next generation of preachers who seek to walk in integrity whilst concurrently embracing the spirit of humility in service of God. As a founding member of the church, he has served in many varied capacities in the ministry throughout the years.
Although initiating his service as the church’s bus driver, Pastor Newry did not despise his humble beginnings and later progressed to host the church’s weekly radio broadcast, which was aired over ZNS radio for many years. Additionally, he has been a long serving member of the church’s executive board. Pastor Newry has also been actively involved with the church’s prison, Sunday School and counselling ministries.
Formerly a general manager of operations at Epic Battery Automotive Limited, Pastor Newry is the eldest of five children born to the late Elder James and Mrs Mazie Newry. A 1978 graduate of C. C. Sweeting Senior High School, Pastor Newry obtained a diploma in pastoral studies from World Harvest Bible College, Columbus, Ohio in 2002. He also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in
theology and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in sacred studies at the Christian Life School of Theology.
Pastor Newry and his wife Queenie Newry have four children who actively serve alongside them in the ministry and they make their home in the south-western district of New Providence.
During the installation service, senior associate pastor (elect) Darren Henfield, will also be installed as assistant to Pastor Newry. Pastor Henfield was ordained an associate pastor of the church in 2009 and appointed to the position of senior associate pastor (elect) during August of 2012. Over the years, he has served in many diverse areas within
the ministry and more recently as a supervisor of ministries. Pastor Henfield, who served as chairman of the Building Fund Committee, which greatly assisted with the church’s ambitious refurbishment and renovations project during 2003, has also served as chairman of the church’s Annual Convention Committee for the past almost 13 years. He and his wife of nearly
28 years are the parents of three sons.
The church’s new executive leadership team will be supported by a seasoned and strong ministerial team that is determined to take the church to new heights. The ministry’s focus is to meet the needs of parishioners not only spiritually but also physically where possible.
