MAJORITY Rule Day was celebrated at a special assembly at Ridgeland Primary School held under the theme: “Let the Children tell the story”.
The day was filled with pomp and pageantry as the entire school took a walk down memory lane and reflected on the significant events leading up to that historic day.
Students learned about some of the pioneers who played a pivotal role in the fight for equality, justice and freedom for the blacks Bahamians.
A variety of selections such as acoustic performances, poems, skits and songs were performed by students with great excitement as they retold the journey to achieving majority rule in 1967.
They paid tribute to the featured speaker Rev Dr Philip Rahming in song, performing “God Bless Our Sunny Clime” which he composed.
“We were indeed honoured to have Rev Dr Philip Rahming on this momentous occasion.
“He enlightened all present as he recalled and shared his wealth of knowledge,” a representative of the school said.
Students, teachers and parents also took in displays depicting the Burma Road Riot and the General Strike of 1958.
