ONE man became the country’s latest murder victim when he was shot in the head as he fled from a group of men who had pursued him after an argument.
Supt Paul Rolle was at the scene yesterday morning. He said the incident took place between four men around 8am near Zinna Street in the Kennedy Subdivision off Soldier Road.
“Our preliminary investigations indicate that this male was having a feud with a group of men over the past couple of days and they had an encounter this morning where they pursued him and shot him, fatally wounding him,” he said.
The group was up the street having an argument, Supt Rolle explained, when the victim ran and three men followed him.
Officers found the man lying on the side of the road with a gunshot wound in his head. EMS confirmed his death soon afterwards. Police say the deceased was in his early to mid-twenties and although he was not named by police, sources believe him to be 22-year-old Dustin Culmer.
“We appeal to members of this community to assist us in bringing closure to this,” Supt Rolle said. “Several persons heard shots, but they say they didn’t see anything.”
One man told The Tribune that he was walking down the street when he heard a gunshot and saw the victim fall to the ground, dead.
“Early this morning I was walking down the street when I heard one shot,” he said. “I was thinking, ‘What the hell happened?’ Then I saw him drop off the wall to the ground. I was just walking past and I looked down at him.”
The witness, who refused to give his name, insisted he did not see the persons responsible for shooting the victim.
Another woman who was among the crowd, also did not want to be named, but stated: “This is Kennedy Subdivision. This sort of thing does happen. I’m not shocked by this.”
Supt Rolle said police are following significant leads and should be able to close the matter in a “reasonable” time.
