A RUSH To Independence is scheduled for the centre of Nassau this evening, with just six days to go before July 10, the official date of the 40th Anniversary of Independence.
It’s planned for 8pm at East and Bay Streets and Navy Lion Road and comes as the build-up to the big day continues, with events this weekend including a national pride day, in Rawson Square, from 10am to 11pm, tomorrow.
Tomorrow has also been dubbed a national ‘T-shirt’ day, with Bahamians encouraged to fly the flag and wear the flag’s colours.
A variety concert has also been planned to celebrate Bahamian composers and musicians, at 8pm at Christ Church Cathedral, George Street.
The concert features The Anglican Chorale and Friends with tickets costing $20.
On Saturday, the urban band is due to perform at Mason’s Addition and The Sir Lynden Pindling Legacy Ball will be held at The Sheraton.
A beat retreat by police, prison and defence bands is on Sunday at 5.30pm at Rawson Square.
The 40th Anniversary of Independence planning committee on Grand Bahama held an art and craft exhibition on June 28, at the Rand Nature Centre in Freeport, with Senator Tanisha Tynes bringing remarks.
Meanwhile the National Independence Flag has been carried across The Bahamas, with our latest pictures showing the flag in the Berry Islands and Farmer’s Cay, where Shirley Nixon prayed for the island and the nation during the flag-raising ceremony.
