THE Bahamas Government Departmental Basketball Association continued play over the weekend with close finishes and blowouts at the DW Davis Gymnasium.
Prison Challengers - 96
Police Enforcers - 88
LEAGUE leading scorer Patrick Brice continued to dominate the competition with a season high 43-point outing for the Challengers’ first win of the season. Brice finished just 5-10 from the floor but shot an amazing 33-44 from the free throw line. He also added eight rebounds and five steals while shooting 75 per cent from the line and 50 per cent from the floor.
League leading rebounder Corey Clarke added 14 points and a game high 23 rebounds while Tresant Strachan chipped in with 19 points and seven rebounds.
Raynold Culmer led the Enforcers with 15 points, Tawi Meers added 13, Anton Marshall finished with 12 and Dwight Williamson chipped in with 11.
Brice forced the Police into foul trouble early on which led to four players fouling out, three of which were starters.
The Challengers outrebounded the Enforcers by 19, and those extra possessions were the difference in a game that featured 15 ties and 16 lead changes.
The Enforcers held a 40-point advantage in points off the bench, but had no answer for Brice on the defensive end of the floor, who drew 23 fouls.
Tronicquest Cybots - 86
BEC Shockers - 80
EUGENE Bain dominated the paint on both ends of the floor with a 20-20 performance to lead the Cybots to their second win of the season.
Bain finished with a game high 29 points, 21 rebounds and four blocks, all game highs and shot 12/21 from the field.
Ernest Saunders scored 18 and added five assists, Brian Bain added 16 points and five assists while Adorn Charlow finished with 12 points, 12 rebounds and four steals.
The Shockers were led by Cyril Rolle with 22 points on 62 per cent shooting from the field.
Brandon Ingraham finished with 17 points, seven assists and six rebounds and Verero Clarke added 17 points and seven rebounds.
The Cybots outscored the Shockers by 12 at the free throw line and by 10 in the paint.
After trailing for much of the game, the Cybots took control late in the second half and led for less than 12 minutes in the game, while the Shockers led for almost 28 minutes.
NIB Kings - 68
Northwestern Sharks - 63
IN a game that featured 10 ties and 17 lead changes, the Sharks’ transition offense proved to be the difference.
Domonique Dean led the Kings with 13 points and 13 rebounds, Chara Wallace added 15 points and Garvin Clarke scored 10.
Jedidiah Bonaby and Thomas Robinson each finished with 11 for the Sharks.
Neither team led by more than six points, and the Kings were able to cling to a one-point lead for the final five minutes of the game.
BUT - 80
BTC - 57
BTC had no answer for Mark Hanna as his 42-point outburst led the Bahamas Union of Teachers to a lopsided win. Hanna was one of only two BUT scorers to reach double figures along with Kevin McPhee who added 10. Hanna shot 67 per cent from the floor (16-24) and 80 per cent (8-10) from the line in a dominating performance.
The BUT got out to a 20-7 lead within the first five minutes of the opening quarter and led wire to wire in the win. They reached as much as 31 in the fourth quarter, boosted by 21 points off turnovers.
BUT shot 56 per cent from the field and defensively forced 17 turnovers.
Dax Evans scored 15 points and nine rebounds to lead BTC while Greco Evans added 14.
Police Crimestoppers - 77
Airport Authority - 67
A NEAR triple double from Freddie Lightbourne and a double double from Vernon Stubbs led the Crimestoppers to their third win of the season.
Lightbourne finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists while Stubbs finished with 31 points and 11 rebounds.
Dario Seymour also chipped in with 22 points to help the Crimestoppers become the league’s first three win team of the season.
Three players in double figures on the boards led the Police to an 18 rebound advantage (58-41).
Tied at 60 in the fourth, the Crimestoppers went on an 7-0 run to take control for good.
The Crimestoppers previously scored wins this season over the Northwestern Sharks (77-62) and Prison Challengers (83-79).
