THE Public Hospitals Authority paid tribute to its employees in grand style during a ceremony held under the patronage of Governor General Sir Arthur Foulkes at the Sheraton Grand Resort on Wednesday, July 3.
Awards were presented to employees who served 45, 40, 35 and 30 years. There were also awards for performance excellence.
The PHA’s Performance Excellence Programme was introduced in 2009 to ensure that employees who exemplify excellence in the delivery of healthcare are recognised and rewarded. Senior physical therapist Sunitha Pati was named PHA’s Employee of the Year 2013/2014.
Allison Scavella, supervisor of microbiology, was named Leader of the Year. Dr Indera Minus-Grimes and Nurse Paulette Cash received awards for clinical excellence.
Rehabilitative Services received honours for Department of the Year and Grand Bahama Health Services received the award for Institution of the Year.
Managing director of the PHA Herbert Brown noted that the long service honourees have been a part of the public service and public healthcare system for a combined 5,950 years and that as a group they personify loyalty and commitment.
Mr Brown said the honourees hail from different disciplines and departments throughout the Public Hospitals Authority.
In his congratulatory remarks, Sir Arthur noted that employee recognition programmes are intended to encourage and reward the habit of excellence.
