ON Saturday, June 22 the Anglican Church Men’s Council hosted it’s first Men and Boys Encounter at St John’s College.
The aim was to share with the boys what it means to be a good, upright and decent man in a Bahamas, a country where this identity has become challenged.
During the course of the day, a jobs fair was held, as were rap sessions.
“There was much fellowship and dialogue, with men sharing testimonies with our boys,” the ACM said.
During the event, ACM Council president Kevin Ryan expressed his “profound gratitude, humility, and indebtedness” to those who took part.
“As I have said to you during one of my talks, the weekend has been so spiritually fulfilling to me, with its’ blessings and challenges, that I feel like I have made my Cursillo Weekend for the first time, even though it actually occurred nearly 25 years ago”.
He added: “One of the central learnings from the weekend must necessarily be the necessity of personal, prayerful introspection (opening oneself to the indwelling of the Holy Spirit) in humility.
“As we continue on in the fourth day (the rest of our lives), we are admonished to continue to live the ideal life of piety, in study, action, and prayer as we become agents of change in our environments.”
The ACM said its vision for 2013 is “Mentorship” and the encounter is the first of many efforts in this vein.
