LORETTA Butler Turner, FNM deputy leader, yesterday insisted that Ministers serving under the previous Ingraham administration were “warned” to stay away from billionaire fashion designer Peter Nygard.
For that matter, Mrs Butler-Turner suggested that Mr Nygard misled the public after he told the media that both FNM and PLP MPs alike were constantly entertained by himself at Nygard Cay.
He told reporters on Monday that he didn’t know if there were any FNM Ministers that didn’t visit the Cay over the years except former Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham.
Mr Ingraham has since assured this newspaper that he never wanted anything to do with Mr Nygard or the likes of him. Therefore, he never met him during his 15 years in office.
“I know that from the top down,” Mrs Butler-Turner said, “sitting Cabinet Ministers have always been warned to stay away from him.
“And from where I sit and if I know Hubert Ingraham the way I know him from and with that perspective I can say that what Nygard is saying is not true. The fact that he admits that Mr Ingraham never went should speak volumes.
“I think that many investors who have come to the Bahamas have given donations to political parties but this blatant demeanour that he controls this country is one that I have never seen in my life.
“He has gone beyond what is acceptable for guests in this country.”
When asked if she at any point had received a financial contribution from Mr Nygard, an emphatic “No” was her reply.
Mrs Butler Tuner further urged Prime Minister Perry Christie and Mr Nygard to be more transparent over the stem cell issue which has over the past few days sparked a heated national debate.
“The more they talk, the more they dig themselves into a hole. Mr Christie says Nygard approached him, but then Nygard says he was approached by the Prime Minister. Which one is it? They need to get their stories straight. They are saying two different things,” she said.
Mr Christie is expected to shed light on the matter today when the House of Assembly reconvenes at 10 am.

Given the recent go'in on's (confusion) at the very top of the red shirts leadership (by the way, where in the hell is South Abaco's Comrade Edison Key). The Tribune's carrying of all this beginning with the House slapp'in affair, couldn't possibly get much funnier. It's like the red shirts have become the Tribune's funny pages. But Comrade Sister Loretta keeps getting the trophy for being the most hilarious of all red shirts. Why? Seems Hubert was prepared to bring to the knees any red shirt found associating with Nygard's money, but did he leave it up to his party's candidates when it came to TAKING money from them numbers "bosses?" Never heard anything about Nygard ever earning his billions from criminal activities. Yeah, Nygard got's one big mouth, too big as a "guest" for most of us natives, but never heard anything about his wealth, coming from criminal activities? I guess it's left up to the natives imagination as to what, if any, "future promises" these red shirts candidates had to pitch as collateral? Even Comrade Bran has called for campaign funding reform, yet has never revealed the DNA's money contributors?

This comment is excruciating funny and hilarious. I have never seen a PLP apologist that is so died in the wool. I think that Tal is either Fred Mitchell or one of his "friends".

This is a load of nonsense...People like Nygard are here because they can be king.. That means they can rule PLP/FNM no matter who, they are both for sale.. We need to create the same conditions here that made Peter Nygard rich, free market capitalism, then the multiple Bahamian born billionaires would shut him up...

And then the Bahamian born billionnaires would rule the government?

Is it time for a woman as PM? Is Loretta Butler Turner "that woman?" Ain't no fleas on her.

I don't know about that, just last week she publicly opposed her leader and said she had no issues with the legislation going forward. Nygard was all up in the mix then too. This seems to be a big issue to me. The fact that she missed it...is...mind boggling.

Userone/Marcus, does Bill Gates or Warren Buffett behave like Nygard.. Free market Capitalism and a free society would not allow it.. Power can only be abused unchallenged in socialist countries like ours with government controlled everything and self discriminating policies.. Hitler was a socialist.. Capitalism has many flaws but its the best of all the worlds systems to improve the lives of anyone who willing work hard. Almost all of the world most evil men like Hitler came from deeply socialistic government controlled society.. Look at north Korea.. I am suprised u 2 are not tired of paying 3 times more for a jar of peanut butter that those in free market capitalist society.. Capitalism is about freedom not money.. As u can see Warren/Bill, have a lot more money than Nyard and they are 2 of the most generous people in the world..

Why do we get so caught up on issues in this country? The stem cell legislation is still a minor plank in the government's plan. Or it should be anyway. We have much bigger concerns to deal with. But for some reason our politicians seem to like getting involved with these petty arguments. We have allowed Nygard, Bacon and the rest to intrude too much into our daily thinking. Can we please start acting like a sovereign nation? Would the media houses stop giving these idiots in their personal war all this air time? I don't care what Nygard or Bacon thinks we should do.
On another note. Ingraham may have said stay away from Nygard but he didn't say stay away from the Aga Khan. A man who subsequently gain approval from Earl D the minister of Environment at the time to dredge in the Exuma sea park. What a dishonest group of people we have representing us. Sickening.

The Aga Khan is a very generous man as well. Just Google him and see what he does for woman's rights and medicine around the world.

Same story, different tale! The reality is that big money influences government around the world! If our governments pass and present were not influenced by special interest, their agenda would always be Bahamian first and we would not be in the decaying social stew that we're in!

I don't understand such problems. I think we like to be dramatic and exgerate things and we can all agree that politics is a very dirty game. http://incaltamintedebarbati.wordpress.…">;)
