A MAN wearing an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet was killed during a double shooting at his residence Wednesday night.
While authorities did not identify the victim, The Tribune understands he is 24-year-old Benjamin Ramsey of Flint Street. Ramsey, accused of assault with a deadly weapon, was out on bail. It was alleged that he had been accused of firing at police officers.
According to reports, at around 11pm Wednesday, Ramsey was standing in his yard with his girlfriend, Kenrico Moxey, and another man when a masked gunman entered the yard and started firing with a handgun.
Shot in his leg, Kenrico Moxey ran to the OK Bar on East and Lewis Streets to call police for assistance.
Ramsey also ran towards East Street, but collapsed at the corner. Emergency Medical Services arrived and pronounced Ramsey dead.
An examination showed that Ramsey had been shot in his chest.
Meanwhile police are searching for three men who robbed an East Street South shopping plaza business on Wednesday.
Police said that at around 6:12 pm the armed men, all of fair complexion, entered and robbed the business of an undisclosed amount of cash. They entered the business through a back door as a delivery was being made.
A 28-year-old man was also arrested when police found him with a pistol and a quantity of ammunition. He was taken into custody around 8pm on Wednesday at Providence Avenue, Chippingham.
Police are urging members of the public to come forward with any information they might have in each of the offences.
