FORMER Tropical Storm Dorian is still likely to have an impact on The Bahamas this week with heavy rainfall forecast.
It may even restrengthen as it races towards us over the next two days, raising the potential for damaging winds, dangerous surf and drenching rain.
After losing its tropical storm status on Saturday, Dorian is now a tropical rainstorm heading west through the southwestern Atlantic.
Forecasters at AccuWeather.com place the path of Dorian along the Turks and Caicos islands, southern Bahamas and South Florida, and say we should be prepared for torrential downpours and the risk of low-lying area and urban flooding.
Meteorologists were continuing to monitor Dorian because the atmosphere was showing signs of becoming more conducive for Dorian to regain tropical storm strength during the next couple of days.
If Dorian returns to tropical storm status, that would raise the potential for damaging winds and dangerous surf to The Bahamas. It could also mean heavier rainfall and a greater risk for flooding, said AccuWeather.com.
Even if such restrengthening fails to occur, Dorian will not pass unnoticed.
A handful of heavy showers and thunderstorms grazed the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico through Monday as Dorian passed by to the north.
More drenching and gusty showers and thunderstorms from Dorian may hit Hispaniola and will spread southeast-to-northwest across the Turks and Caicos, southern and central Bahamas and eastern Cuba Tuesday through Wednesday.
The danger of rough surf will also shift from east to west from the Leeward Islands to the Bahamas through Wednesday.
