FOUR people are in custody and assisting police with their investigation of an armed robbery in which a 70-year-old woman was shot.
According to reports, two women and two men are being questioned in connection with the incident, which left Belpheam Lightbourne with serious injuries to the neck and right shoulder.
Police spokesperson Inspector Chrislyn Skippings yesterday told The Tribune that the victim was making some progress but was still in serious condition at the Princess Margaret Hospital.
Mrs Lightbourne was shot as three men fled her home on Pholemus Street, off Nassau Street, after robbing the family of thousands of dollars in electronics. The incident occurred at around 3.30 on Friday.
Mrs Lightbourne’s grandson, 19-year-old Glenroy Brown, told The Tribune that he and other family members were struggling to understand why she was shot.
“It was a robbery and they carry a lot out of this house.
“We still wondering why.
“When we wake up in the middle of the night, they was over us with the guns – well, at least when I wake up it look like they did done move everything out the house so they was getting ready to leave. So when they was coming out they fired a shot.”
The thieves ultimately escaped with two laptop computers, a microwave oven, clothes, shoes, a television and a fan, said Glenroy.
