FREEPORT – The Humane Society of Grand Bahama is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the killing of several farm animals at the St Georges’s High School.
According to police reports, seven goats and 12 chickens were slaughtered between May 28 and June 1 at the rear of the school compound on Sunset Highway.
The animals were a part of the school’s agricultural programme. The estimated cost to replace the livestock is $930.
School principal Keith Barr said they initially discovered three goats and 12 chickens dead on Wednesday.
Another four goats, including the big ram, were discovered on Saturday.
Mr Barr is appealing to anyone with relevant information to contact the authorities.
Asst Commissioner of Police Emrick Seymour said the police also take animal cruelty cases very seriously.
“We have recently gotten some concerns about that and we tell our officers that animal cases are just as serious of other crimes that are being committed,” he said.
The principal Mr Barr described the incident as cruel and senseless.
A poster offering the reward is being circulated online. Anyone with information is ask to contact the HSGB on 352-2477, 727-2477 or 727-0212.
