ELEUTHERA ACTION
THE Eleuthera Junior Baseball League of Rock Sound played its final game in the junior divisions of the 2013 Championship Series in Spanish Wells on Saturday.
The Spanish Wells Contenders nipped the Rock Sound NuView Stingrays 7-6 in a thriller to clinch the title.
The Stingrays tagged the Contenders with four big runs in the top of the first inning and two more in the fifth inning off starting pitcher Chandler Albury.
However, the Contenders chipped back with a run in the first, two in the third and four in the fifth inning to win with a walk-off two run homer by the MVP Bailey Pinder.
Pinder went three-for-three with two doubles and a walk-off two-run homer to end the games and secure the title.
The Stingrays pitcher Jonathon Brown struck out five Contenders batters and his teammate Tyler Leary went 1-for-3 with a mammoth two-run homer straight away to center field.
The Contenders pitcher Chandler Albury struck out three Stingrays batters and relief pitcher Kirby Albury came in the fifth inning and struck out the side to secure the win.
The series marked the end of a very successful season for the league and resident Larry Forbes and his executives wish to express their thanks and gratitude to all the team managers, coaches, players and fans for the time and support in the development of the young men and women in their respective communities through the sport of baseball. He also wished good luck to both Spanish Wells Harbourside and Rock Sound NuView, as well as the Spanish Wells Sluggers as they prepare to attend the 11th Annual BBF Nationals Championships in Freeport next week.
