FLAG raising ceremonies were held in Acklins and Crooked Island on June 12 as the countdown continues to July 10, The Bahamas’ 40th Anniversary of Independence. Accompanying the flag was Father Sebastian Campbell, a Commissioner of the 40th Independence Celebration Commission.
Father Campbell said that in our 40th year of Independence the Parliament of The Bahamas legislated January 10 as a national holiday; renamed Labour Day in honour of Randol Fawkes and instituted a system of honours to replace the British Honours system in the country.
He said it was this generation’s responsibility to indoctrinate the young who are the next generation of Bahamian leaders about their history, culture and all things Bahamian.
