GB Chamber unveils first SME workshop

The Grand Bahama Chamber of Commerce, supported by the Grand Bahama Port Authority (GBPA), will present its first Business Workshop for the year on Tuesday, June 25.

Realising that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) represent a significant portion of Bahamian gross domestic product (GDP), the GB Chamber’s small business development committee has placed emphasis on designing financial seminars for the sector’s development, focusing on issues such as keeping proper financial records.

The workshop, which will last for half a day, aims to introduce participants to the value of proper record keeping, and to provide practical tips to create successful and sustainable business operations. The workshop will feature experts in the fields of accounting, banking and financial and strategic management.

The committee’s co-chair, Raquel Hart, said: “Our mandate as a committee is to empower, educate and equip SMEs by providing technical and educational support for sustainability and growth of businesses in the community”.

Presenters will include Barry Malcolm, president of the GB Chamber of Commerce; Adrian Carey and Wenrick Clarke, Bank of the Bahamas; Fiona Bellot-Daniels, president of Shred Secure; Janice Carroll, president JC Management; and Eyvette Thompson, the Enterprising Centre of the Port Authority.
