Freeport, Grand Bahama – As the nation’s 40th Anniversary of Independence nears, Grand Bahama Shipyard has come on board as a corporate sponsor of the upcoming celebrations.
The shipyard donated $5,000 to the Grand Bahama Planning Committee for the independence celebrations and will also help the committee with equipment and labour needs for various functions.
Peter Adderley, committee co-chairman, said: “The shipyard continues to be a positive corporate supporter throughout the community year round and more than just talk about corporate citizenship, they continue to demonstrate it.
“Forty years marks a very special time in the nation’s history and we’re happy that such a corporate giant has come on board to share these celebrations with us. On behalf of the committee and the government, we’re very pleased for the shipyard’s support as we prepare for the rest of the celebrations, July 10 and beyond.”
Mr Adderley said although the country is in the midst of tough economic times, he is thrilled with the level of patriotism displayed by the company.
Linda Turnquest, Director of Finance and Information Technology at the GB Shipyard, said the company’s large number of young Bahamians it employs also feel the excitement of the independence celebrations.
“We want them to be excited with what is taking place. On behalf of the management and staff at the Grand Bahama Shipyard, we are proud to assist the committee in support of the nation’s celebrations,” she said.
“Forty years is a milestone, in The Bahamas it speaks of a new generation. We’re a young company in Grand Bahama, but we’re a good corporate citizen and we believe in The Bahamas,” Turnquest added.
