FREEPORT – As the country prepares to celebrate its 40th Anniversary of Independence, Bahamian Reggae artist Jah Troy has released a new song paying tribute to Bahamians.
Jah Troy’s new single is ‘Good as Gold.’ He says Bahamians have come a long way over the past 40 years.
“We are good as gold,” said the Grand Bahama-based artist, who pays tribute to the country’s leaders Sir Lynden Pindling, Perry Christie, and Hubert Ingraham.
“When I was ten, I met Sir Lynden on the plane. I shook his hand and that always stuck in my mind.
“As far as I am concerned, the foundation he laid has us going in the right direction – the things he put in place has allowed as a people to grow, and we have build on what he has put in place.”
Jah Troy admits that no country is without its faults.
“There will always be something negative; no country is without its problems, but I look for the positive,” he said.
Jah Troy said the ‘Good as Gold’ single has received airtime on Love 97 and Mix 102 radio stations in Freeport.
Through his promotional company TroyDat, he has also created a video for the single featuring the many milestones and achievements of Bahamians. The video has been posted on You Tube.
He has received positive feedback from the public.
“It is a single on the Thank You Riddim. I have incorporated the motto, “Forward, Upward, Onward Together’ in the song,” he said.
Jah Troy has been a reggae artist since 1995. Songs include ‘Next Meal,’ ‘Can’t Fail,’ and ‘All for One – One for All,’ which pays tribute to the Golden Knights 4x400 metre relay team.
Troy said he has always been privileged, but has learned to be considerate to those less fortunate through the example of his parents, David and Agatha Thompson.
“My Dad has always been encouraging me. My parents are a big part of who I am; they were always considerate of people.
“My mother is a servant to the people through her work with the Home for the Aged, and my dad has given political service - he is a very generous man,” he said.
