AML Foods has raised 11,000 for Hands for Hunger in New Providence and the Grand Bahama Red Cross’s Meals on Wheels Program.
In recognition of World Hunger Day, throughout the month of May, shoppers at Cost Right Nassau, Solomon’s SuperCentre, Solomon’s Fresh Market at Old Fort Bay, Solomon’s Fresh Market at Harbour Bay, Solomon’s Lucaya, Solomon’s Queens Highway, and Cost Right Freeport had the opportunity to add a donation to their shopping bill to help eradicate hunger in the Bahamas.
Abigail Asgaralli, executive director of Hands For Hunger, said: “We are so grateful for the continued support of the AML Foods brands and their customers for the Add-A-Donation campaign.
“Hands for Hunger is committed to eliminating unnecessary hunger and food waste throughout New Providence. Our organsation is a registered not-for-profit charity led by a volunteer board of directors, a small staff of four, and is fuelled by the efforts of more than 600 dedicated volunteers. We depend on corporate partners like AML Foods to perform our mission”.
Ms Asgaralli said the money raised will allow Hands for Hunger to better serve the 13 recipient agencies for which they provide emergency food assistance.
“One hundred per cent of the donations will directly benefit the charity’s effort to eliminate unnecessary hunger and food insecurity through its food rescue programme, educational publications and research initiatives,” she added.
Mary Culmer, director of the Grand Bahama Red Cross, said: “Our Meals-on- Wheels programme is always in need of assistance for its survival, and we continue to rely on the generosity of the community to assist us in our efforts to feed the hungry.
“We are pleased to partner with AML Foods in this wonderful initiative and we salute them for their continued support of charities such as the Red Cross. They are truly their brother’s keeper.”
Renea Knowles, AML Foods’ vice-president of marketing and communications, said: “Our company takes pride in being able to assist charities and organisations that provide support, hope and assistance to those most needy.
“I would like to thank our valuable customers who donated to the campaign and made it a huge success. We look forward to continuing our partnership with our local charities, such as Hands for Hunger and The Red Cross”.
