A MURDER suspect was gunned down and three other men are in hospital after three separate shooting incidents in the capital Monday night.
The murder occurred around 9:30pm off Market Street.
Police say they received a call that shots were heard in West End Avenue off Market Street.
When officers arrived they found a man “lying in a semi-conscious state” with apparent gunshot wounds in his stomach and the upper left side of his back. He was wearing an ankle bracelet.
The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance where he died a few hours later while undergoing surgery for his injuries.
Police have not officially identified the victim, but The Tribune understands he is Elroy Wilson.
Wilson was out on bail on a robbery and attempted murder charge.
Paul Rolle, Officer in charge of the Central Detective Unit, said the victim was also wanted by police for questioning in connection with the murder of Shavano Dean of Wulff Road.
Dean was shot to death on February 25th in the parking lot of Comfort Zone.
Mr Rolle said police believe Wilson may have been killed in retaliation.
“We believe it could have been pay back for that murder. We had just received information that the victim may have been involved and we went to pick him up, but these criminals got to him before we did,” he said.
“Gang warfare seems to be showing its ugly head again. It all started a couple weeks ago during an incident that occurred at a club. We had two different gangs converge in one place and now people want to take matters into their own hands, but the police will not let this happen.”
Police are not certain of the circumstances surrounding this incident. They are asking members of the public to assist them with information by dialling 911 or 919, the Central Detective Unit at 502-9991 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 328-TIPS.
This latest homicide takes the country’s murder count to 16 for the year.
The first incident occurred around 7:45pm at Hay and Maycock Streets when two men were shot.
Police say the men, both 37 years old, were in the Comfort Street area when they were approached by two armed men.
One man was shot in his stomach and left hip, while the other was shot in his right shoulder and left leg.
They were taken to hospital by ambulance and in a private vehicle. They are listed in serious, but stable condition.
The other shooting occurred around 8:30pm in Joan’s Heights.
Police say a 23-year-old man was leaving his home with his three-month-old son when he heard gunshots and realised he had been shot in his upper back.
He was taken to hospital where he is listed in stable condition. The baby was unharmed.
